At HAVEN Centered Wellness, we care for the whole person,
not just the symptom, to help uncover what your body needs.

What We Care For

Your body is not working against you.
It is asking for something.

Centered on the whole person

What Haven Is

At HAVEN Centered Wellness, our work is not condition-specific. It is person-specific.

Two people with the same symptom can have very different underlying causes. Two people with different symptoms can share the same underlying imbalance. We work with you to understand what is happening underneath the symptom and address the root cause.

The forms of care come from both Chinese medicine and Western therapeutic traditions, and include acupuncture, therapeutic massage, manual lymphatic drainage, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, auriculotherapy and ear seeds, Chinese herbal liniments, and qigong practices you can take home. Which form of care, how it is applied, and for how long all depend on what your body needs.

These are the areas of care that most often bring people to HAVEN.

Acute & Chronic Pain

Acute or chronic pain is rarely just about the pain itself. There is usually something generating it: a disruption in circulation, a nervous system holding a state of alarm, an inflammatory response, or even emotional stress.

Pain is a signal that something is off and wants attention.

We address what's driving the pain, not just the pain itself.

Many people experience meaningful relief within the first several sessions. Chronic pain held in the body for years may take longer. Your practitioner will make a starting recommendation at your first visit.

Treatment can include acupuncture, ear seeds, Chinese herbal liniments, therapeutic massage, or a TDP heat lamp to support healing. Each visit, your practitioner assesses what has shifted since last time, starting with what you have noticed. The plan adjusts based on your body's response.

frequently asked questions

Most people notice a difference by the third or fourth session. Lasting symptom relief typically takes a course of treatments, sometimes up to twelve. Pain held in the body for years takes longer. Every body responds differently, and your practitioner adjusts the plan as yours does.

In most cases, we like to see new patients once a week for several weeks until they experience consistent symptom relief over a two week period. At that point, we can phase out or conclude treatments, or establish a maintenance plan. Some patients like to come every week for self-care, and some on a monthly or quarterly basis for a maintenance appointment to ensure that their energy is flowing smoothly.

frequently asked questions

Yes. Acupuncture at HAVEN is performed by a licensed practitioner using single-use sterile needles. Side effects are uncommon and typically minor, such as light bruising at a needle site.

Many people find acupuncture relaxing rather than painful. The needles are very fine, much thinner than the needles used for injections, and you may feel a brief pinch, warmth, or heaviness when a point is activated. Mayo Clinic offers a clear overview of what acupuncture feels like and what to expect during a session.

The care starts before you walk through the door. By the time you arrive, your practitioner has already been thinking about you and how to support you. Our treatment rooms are designed to help your nervous system feel safe and comfortable.

Stress and anxiety are the most common reasons people come to HAVEN for mental and emotional support. We also care for people navigating grief, anger and frustration, worry and rumination, PTSD, depression, panic and fear, ADD, and ADHD. Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and therapeutic massage each have well-documented positive effects on cortisol, nervous system, and emotional regulation.

Mental and Emotional Wellbeing

Your plan is built around what you are carrying. It may include acupuncture, ear seeds for nervous system support between sessions, a qigong breathing practice to take home, or therapeutic massage. We customize your plan to what you are navigating, in a fully attentive and supportive environment.

"I sought acupuncture while spiritually and physically broken in trauma, grief, and heartache. With the consistent loving care I received, I began to heal. Through her persistence and, truly, her personal interest, Ericca sought every possible way to balance my energies and lead me to the place I am today. Ericca helped me regain use of my hand, clear my blocked ear, and process my pain, anxiety and grief. I honestly believe she helped save my life. -CE

Reproductive and Hormonal Health

Symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, mood swings, temperature dysregulation, irregular or difficult menstrual cycles, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS, formerly known as polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS), thyroid imbalance, perimenopause, hot flashes, and even interrupted sleep can all signal that your hormones are asking for balance.

At HAVEN, we look beyond the individual symptom to how all your systems are working together, and where proper communication can be restored.

Chinese medicine and acupuncture have a long, well-documented history of supporting hormonal health and the systems that regulate it. Your care draws on these modalities, alongside ear seeds for support between sessions, therapeutic massage to help your nervous system settle, and lymphatic drainage to support fluid balance and circulation. Much of hormonal regulation begins with a body that has room to settle. You feel more balanced, clear, and like yourself. You may even notice benefits beyond the concern that brought you in.

We approach fertility with the full picture in view: your cycle, your hormonal balance, the stress your body is carrying, and what else may be at play. For people going through IVF we offer the Paulus protocol, a specific set of acupuncture points used before and after transfer to support implantation.

During pregnancy, people come to HAVEN for nausea and morning sickness, back and hip pain, sleep disruption, fatigue, indigestion, constipation, congestion, and swollen ankles. Our massage team is trained in prenatal massage, which eases lower-back, hip, and overall structural changes that come with a growing pregnancy and helps the nervous system rest.

Fertility, Pregnancy, and
Postpartum care

After birth, care continues for postpartum recovery and lactation support.

"My husband was deployed at the start of my acupuncture treatments, which I did for 3 months before he returned in December. I am now happily 5 months pregnant with a healthy baby girl after over 2 years of trying and my thyroid symptoms and blood work have improved. Acupuncture is now a staple in my self care and I owe so much of that to Haven for providing such a positive experience right from the beginning. Thank you, Ericca!" - DP

Digestive Health

The food we take in and how we process it influences how all our systems function and how we feel. What we eat, when we eat, and even how we eat all have an impact on digestive health.

In addition to exploring symptoms, at HAVEN we dig deeper to understand your relationship with food and how your digestion is functioning in concert with all your systems. Bloating, abdominal discomfort, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, excess weight, nausea, IBS and IBD are ways your body shows you that there is an underlying imbalance that needs to be addressed.

In Chinese medicine, digestion is at the center of overall health.

We draw on Chinese medicine, acupuncture, ear seeds, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, qigong, and where relevant, therapeutic massage and lymphatic drainage, each with direct effects on digestive function, nervous system regulation, and inflammation. Our work complements the dietary and functional approaches you are already taking. Fiber, water, and even medications may not be enough, and sometimes the most meaningful shift comes from addressing what no single protocol has been targeting.

Ericca listens to her patients and their bodies to design the most beneficial treatment plan. Her technique is efficient and accurate, and she has a great bedside manner which puts me at ease and helps me be comfortable. She has helped me gain the focus I needed to complete important projects, as well as overcome digestive issues, stress, and even colds and viruses when I’ve been sick. I feel lucky to get an acupuncture treatment from her! -AQ

frequently asked questions

Skin is one of the most reliable external expressions of internal conditions. Acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, sagging skin, wrinkles, and many other skin presentations appear to be surface-level issues. A closer look often reveals that they are expressing something at a deeper level.

At HAVEN, your practitioner reads the skin as part of a broader picture.

Skin and Complexion

What it looks like, where the skin issue shows up on the body, how it shifts with seasons or stress, how it connects to what else is happening in the body. From there, we identify the source of the issue and address it at that level, while supporting the skin’s own capacity to regulate and heal. Chinese medicine, acupuncture, and lymphatic drainage have detailed frameworks for understanding skin as a reflection of systemic conditions.

For cosmetic and beauty care, we recommend lymphatic drainage facial massage. By moving fluid and stimulating circulation, it helps soften puffiness, brighten tone, and keep the skin looking and feeling like itself. Many people turn to it for signs of aging and general facial care, and it can also promote healing after cosmetic procedures and surgery.

When the internal state shifts, the surface expression shifts with it.

Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy

This includes chronic congestion, sinusitis, post-nasal drip, polyps, cough, recurrent ear infections, tinnitus, allergies, and the fatigue that comes with a head that never quite clears.

HAVEN draws on Chinese medicine, acupuncture, ear seeds, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, and lymphatic drainage to ease inflammation, support drainage, and address the underlying environment that makes recurrence possible.

Chinese medicine has addressed ear, nose, throat, sinus, and allergy concerns for thousands of years.

HAVEN treats seasonal and environmental allergies with acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Care addresses sinus pressure, congestion, post-nasal drip, itchy eyes, and the fatigue of a chronic histamine load, whether the trigger is pollen, dust, mold, or pet dander, or another source.

The goal is to address what's driving the allergic response, not just to manage symptoms. Treatment works alongside antihistamines, nasal sprays, or immunotherapy you are currently taking. As your response changes, you may find you need them less. Any adjustments to prescribed medications should be made with your prescribing provider.

Seasonal and Environmental Allergies

SAAT / Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment

SAAT is used at HAVEN for mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) and alpha-gal syndrome (AGS). MCAS occurs when mast cells excessively release chemical mediators that cause allergic symptoms, and it can masquerade as AGS, which is why we check for MCAS before treating AGS. AGS is triggered by a tick bite and produces an allergic reaction to mammalian products.

The SAAT treatment involves a tiny semi-permanent needle placed in the ear, worn for three to four weeks.

HAVEN is the only practice in Wilmington offering the Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT) and is certified by Dr. Soliman.

As awareness of MCAS and AGS has grown, so has the demand for the SAAT treatment. If you are managing MCAS or AGS and looking for support, HAVEN is the only place to find it in Wilmington. The next nearest certified SAAT provider is in Chapel Hill.

frequently asked questions

Headaches, Sleep, and the Nervous System

What makes our work effective is identifying what is actually driving the symptoms: tension, hormonal shifts, sinus pressure, meal timing, digestive imbalance, or a nervous system that has not yet found its way back to rest.

Headaches and sleep disruption are some of the most common concerns that bring people to HAVEN.

How It Feels

Treatment plans here often include something for you to take home between sessions. Ear seeds are a common choice. Small seeds placed on acupuncture points in the ear, worn for up to a week, so when anxiety, a headache, or trouble sleeping shows up, you can press the seed to activate the point yourself.

Sometimes nerve damage is at the root of a nervous system issue like peripheral neuropathy, and nerves heal slowly. We tell you that honestly. Our direction is consistently positive, and the timeline is one we work through together.

HAVEN draws on Chinese medicine, acupuncture, ear seeds, dietary and lifestyle recommendations, therapeutic massage, and the combination that fits your unique presentation. These modalities each have well-documented positive effects on headache frequency and intensity, sleep onset and quality, and nervous system regulation.

Mold exposure is more common in Wilmington than most people realize, and it is often the last thing identified after a long search for answers. Mold, heavy metal toxicity, and other environmental exposures share a similar story: complex symptoms, careful investigation, and a detox process that benefits from comprehensive support.

When someone is working through an active detox protocol directed by another practitioner, we offer meaningful support alongside that work. Acupuncture to help calm symptoms and boost immune function. Therapeutic massage and lymphatic drainage to support the body’s natural elimination pathways during a demanding process.

Mold, Heavy Metals, and Detox Support

At HAVEN, we do not prescribe detox protocols. We offer support while you follow the protocol from your prescribing practitioner. We can also offer resources if you are looking for a practitioner to diagnose and prescribe a detox plan, and we welcome being a collaborative part of your care team. The support we provide can make a real difference in helping your body move through the detox process smoothly.

Lymphatic Congestion & Recovery

Lymph moves through breath, motion, and the rhythm of the body. When surgery, illness, or chronic congestion slows that flow, you may experience it as swelling, fatigue, or delayed healing.

Manual lymphatic drainage massage (MLD), also called lymphatic drainage massage, is a precise, hands-on technique. Light pressure. Directional rhythm. The work moves fluid through the system the way the body would on its own when everything is working well. You leave feeling lighter, not worked over.

The lymphatic system has no pump of its own.

At HAVEN, our Manual Lymphatic Drainage Practitioner is trained in the Vodder method.

We provide manual lymphatic drainage for medical surgical recovery, including mastectomy and reconstructive procedures. We are happy to work alongside your surgical team through your recovery.

Post-surgical lymphatic drainage is also widely recommended after plastic surgery, particularly liposuction, BBL, and tummy tuck procedures, where significant fluid and inflammation are part of the recovery. Many surgeons now recommend a structured course in the weeks following. The work reduces swelling, softens fibrosis, and helps the final result settle evenly.

Post-surgical recovery

These are distinct clinical conditions with specific management needs. We provide Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) as part of your broader care plan, working alongside your primary care team when compression therapy is part of the picture.

Lymphedema and lipedema management

Lymphatic drainage also supports people managing chronic inflammation, immune function and fatigue, and the cumulative load of stress, hormonal shifts, and environmental exposure. For these, regular sessions, often monthly, become part of a longer-term care that supports the body over time.

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic, hands-on technique that supports the lymphatic system in moving fluid, reducing swelling, and supporting immune function. The pressure is light and the rhythm is precise. It feels nothing like a deep tissue massage.

Chinese medicine, acupuncture, therapeutic massage, and lymphatic drainage each offer meaningful support during active cancer treatment and recovery.

We work alongside your medical team. The scope is support: managing side effects, sustaining immune function, easing the experience of a demanding course of treatment, and giving the body more resources to draw on as it recovers.

Support During Cancer Treatment

At HAVEN, we carefully craft a combination that best serves each person’s specific situation. Acupuncture for the systemic stress and inflammation that chemotherapy and radiation can create in the body, and for the nausea that often accompanies treatment. Lymphatic drainage for the fluid management many people need following surgery, including mastectomy recovery.
