Here is how that unfolds, from the first call through ongoing care.

What We Care For

Care at HAVEN is a supportive relationship that deepens across visits.

The HAVEN Experience

START WITH A CONSULTATION CALL

The consultation call is free, runs about ten minutes, and is a real conversation. Most people use it to walk through what they are noticing and what they have already tried. We listen, ask good questions, and help you decide whether HAVEN is the right fit.

Anyone considering HAVEN is welcome to start here.

It starts with a call

Sometimes the right next step is an appointment. Sometimes it is a referral. We will be honest and recommend the best option.

What happens next depends on where you’d like to start your care.

By the time you arrive for your first treatment, your practitioner has been thinking about you and how to support you.

Your first appointment

If you are coming for therapeutic massage or manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), your first appointment is an in-person visit. Intake happens at the start of the session, so your therapist understands what your body needs that day.

If you are coming for acupuncture, your first appointment is a comprehensive process by design. It begins with an intake phone call, separate from your first treatment. The intake is a conversation. Your practitioner asks what is bringing you to HAVEN, what you have noticed lately, what you have tried. You might be asked about things that may seem unrelated to your symptoms. Sleep. Digestion. Your mood. Cycles. How you feel in the morning, how you feel by evening. In Chinese medicine, all of these are related. Each piece adds to the picture.

You leave with a clear sense of what your practitioner is seeing and a recommended path forward.

Most people come once a week for several weeks at the beginning. That rhythm gives the body time to respond and integrate the treatment. Each session begins with what has shifted since last time. The plan adjusts based on your body's answer.

HAVEN is one part of a broader picture. Many of the people we care for are also working with a primary care physician, a therapist, an obstetrician or gynecologist, a surgeon, an oncology team, or a functional medicine practitioner directing a detox protocol. We work alongside them.

HAVEN is a collaborative part of your care team. We have referral relationships across Wilmington, and we will tell you when one of those is the right next call.

Working alongside your care team

The same principle applies to the services we offer. If you already have a massage therapist you trust, keep seeing them. We are here to support what you choose.

At HAVEN, our goal is for you to be fully supported, whether all of your care happens at HAVEN or with additional outside providers.

A treatment plan at HAVEN takes shape as we go.

Acupuncture may lead. Therapeutic massage or manual lymphatic drainage may join the plan. Ear seeds may go home with you for support between visits. A qigong practice. Dietary and lifestyle recommendations when those are part of the picture. Each form of care is delivered by a trained practitioner. What integrates them at HAVEN is the care plan built around you, and how your practitioners coordinate to support you.

A plan takes shape

Every recommendation at HAVEN is a starting point. Your practitioner shares the thinking behind it. Whether you follow it, adjust it, or take a different path is yours to decide.

That flexibility is not a compromise of the care. It is what meeting you where you are means in practice.

You are in charge

If weekly treatments are what your situation calls for but every other week is what your schedule can sustain, then every other week is what we work with. If you want lifestyle but not dietary suggestions, we work with that. If you decide to pause for a month, we pick up where we left off.

There is no pressure to follow a particular path. There is no judgment if you choose a different one.

Care that continues

schedule a consultation call

Once you experience continued relief for two weeks, treatments phase down. For some, the work is complete. Some come back later when something new arises. Some transition to monthly or quarterly maintenance. The choice is yours.

For many people, care at HAVEN becomes part of how they take care of themselves. Whatever the rhythm, the relationship continues. We remember what you have worked through.

A relationship that pays attention, adjusts as you do, and remembers what you have worked through. Over time, you start to understand your body in a different way. You begin to know what it is asking for, and what to do when it asks.

How will I know if it is working?

That depends on what you are coming in for. Acupuncture begins with an intake phone call that runs up to 60 minutes, so your practitioner has time to think through your situation in advance. After the intake phone call is complete, your first treatment session in the office is 60 minutes. After that, follow-up acupuncture sessions run 60 minutes. Therapeutic massage sessions are available for 60 or 90 minutes. Initial manual lymphatic drainage sessions are available for 60, 90, or 120 minutes. After your first manual lymphatic drainage session, 45 minute follow-up sessions are also available. Intake is handled at the start of your massage or manual lymphatic drainage appointment.

No. Every recommendation at HAVEN is a starting point, not a directive. You decide what fits your body, your schedule, and your budget. Your practitioner shares the thinking behind any recommendation, and you take it from there.

That is welcome here. HAVEN is a collaborative part of your care team. If you have a massage therapist you trust and the right move is to keep seeing that person alongside acupuncture work at HAVEN, we support that. Our goal is for you to be fully supported, whether all of your care happens at HAVEN or with additional outside providers.

Your body tells you. Most people notice meaningful change by the third or fourth session. Lasting symptom relief typically takes a course of treatments. Your practitioner reassesses with you each visit, starting with what has shifted since last time.
